RIBA Stage 5: First point of contact for both contractor and client. Making decisions on site and developing alternative solutions with main contractor and specialist trade sub-contractors. Day to day running of the project: chairing all meetings, issuing construction information, approving sub-contractor’s drawings and samples.
This private apartment creates impressive open spaces incorporating distinctive designs from the clients. The space makes use of period features in the former Royal Mail sorting office such as double height ceilings and oversized windows.
Two separate volumes, with very fluid spaces, were created. One, a double height space which houses the sitting room, dinning room and kitchen, preserves the sense of volume of the original building. The other is a single storey, more domestic space, which houses the more private areas.
The sitting room features a huge pebble wall, a reference to the American villas of the 1950’s. The kitchen has bespoke colourfully lacquered joinery, with a a huge marble worktable that connects the dining room area to the kitchen. The master bathroom has large format marble slabs to all walls and floors, which are softened with rounded angles.
